Signature Line Importance

Marketing

In the December issue of Marketing Made Simple, VA Training coach and co-group leader Heather Jacobson talked about the importance of a great signature line and boy is she ever correct! How many times have you viewed an email from a listserv or other venue and are left with a look of “Hmmm” after you’re finished reading? Probably more times than you care to remember.

When you send an email, don’t leave the recipient(s) guessing who you are and what you do, rather take the time to WOW them. Signature lines are one of the best marketing opportunities you are presented with and the best thing is they’re free ;). I know that Heather has personally gained at least two clients using a dynamic, powerful signature line, so it’s definitely not something to ignore.

Become a Master Craftsman

1. Keep the signature line as brief as possible, generally no more than 8 lines. You want them to contact you, not sift through a dissertation.
2. Keep graphics to a minimum and if they are a must, take the extra time to design your signature block so it views correctly in “text only” format. Many recipients have their email client set to receive text only email, therefore graphics will be lost.
3. Include your contact information.
4. Include your website address and/or blog information.
5. Include your tagline or USP.
6. Most of all have fun and let your personality shine through!
